TLDR: I’m launching an app + discord community to help you practice system design every day. Join me here!
System design is not optional anymore. A few years ago (when I first joined Amazon), it felt like something only senior engineers needed to worry about. Now interns and new grads are getting asked system design questions just to land a job, mid-level engineers need it to get promoted, and it’s still the majority of the job for senior engineers.
And I think AI is only making this more important. AI can help you write code, but it cannot fully replace the judgment required to design a real system with limited information.
It cannot reliably decide the tradeoffs for your product, your users, your traffic patterns, your database constraints, your latency requirements, your failure modes, and your business goals.
That is still on you, and that’s why I built The Daily Dev.
Every day, The Daily Dev gives you one system design question to help you sharpen your technical judgment. The questions are intentionally challenging, so each one includes additional resources you can use to go deeper and actually understand the concepts behind the answer.
You’ll also get access to my private Discord community (where I’ll be hanging out all day today and tomorrow) where you can chat with me, meet other members of the community, discuss the daily question, and get access to exclusive resources / advice from me.
So if you want to get better at system design without committing to another giant course you probably won’t finish, The Daily Dev is for you.
See you inside (and don’t forget to introduce yourself!),
Arjay
